James 3:7-8
For every species of beasts and birds, of reptiles and creatures of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by the human race. But no one can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison.
"Sticks and stones can break my bones but words will never hurt me." I'm not sure what fool said that but untruer words have never been spoken. We've already talked about how our tongues dictate our direction and spread destruction far and wide. Now we learn that the tongue is full of poison, and poison kills. That's why the bible says this:
Proverbs 18:21
Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
And those who love it will eat its fruit.
Romans 3:13
“Their throat is an open grave,
With their tongues they keep deceiving,”
Our tongues are not only dictators and destroyers, they are death dealers as well. We might could spend years building up an immunity to Iocane powder but we will never be immune to the poison spewed from our mouths and others.
The solution I think is not much different than how we keep poison from kids. Lock it and label it. The “lock it” applies to us. We lock our mouths until we are sure that what is coming out is not poison. The “label it” applies to others. When we hear poison coming form others we label it so that we don't drink it in.
